Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to common questions about Earthquake Hub

Earthquake Hub aggregates data from multiple global seismic monitoring services including USGS, EMSC, and other reliable sources. We combine this data and present it without modification to provide the most comprehensive view of seismic activity worldwide.

You can customize alerts in the app settings by:
  • Setting minimum magnitude thresholds
  • Selecting specific geographic regions
  • Choosing notification sounds
  • Setting quiet hours when you don't want to be disturbed

The SOS feature allows you to send emergency messages to predefined contacts with your current location:
  1. Set up emergency contacts in the app settings
  2. In an emergency, press the SOS button
  3. The app will send SMS messages with your location to selected contacts
  4. If trapped, the audio beacon will activate to help rescuers locate you

No, Earthquake Hub does not predict earthquakes. Currently, there is no scientifically proven method to reliably predict earthquakes. Our app provides real-time information about earthquakes that have already occurred, typically within seconds to minutes after they happen.

The accuracy depends on the source data providers. Typically:
  • Location: Within 5-10 km for most earthquakes
  • Magnitude: Initial estimates may vary by ±0.2 units, with more accuracy as more data becomes available
  • Depth: May have significant uncertainty, especially for distant earthquakes
We recommend checking multiple sources for critical decisions.

If you're not receiving notifications, please check:
  • App notification permissions in your phone settings
  • Battery optimization settings that might restrict background activity
  • Your alert settings in the app (minimum magnitude, regions)
  • Internet connectivity
  • App updates (ensure you have the latest version)

The audio beacon feature:
  • Activates when you enable it in emergency mode
  • Emits a high-volume, high-frequency sound pattern
  • Uses a unique sequence that distinguishes it from background noise
  • Works even if your phone is locked or screen is off
  • Can run for several hours on most devices
This sound helps rescue teams locate you in rubble where visual signs might be hidden.
